Champlain Orchards doesn’t have its own canning line but uses Iron Heart Canning Co., based in New Hampshire, to come on site for a day or two, set up its machines and can the cider. “That’s a six-figure piece of equipment that takes up floor space,” Burbank said of the canning line. “We don’t have those things.” Iron Heart has grown into a large company covering half the country, according to Burbank. “There’s huge demand,” she said. “All these small breweries and wineries don’t want to invest in packaging equipment.”
